[130524][Op-Ed/Discussion] What is the meaning behind CL’s single cover art?
After announcing that the next YGE artist up would be CL a few weeks back, there has been very sparse information on what the first solo song from 2NE1’s leader would be like. However, an official teaser finally dropped yesterday as YG-Life released the cover image & song title for CL’s debut song! However, two official teasers have finally dropped as YG-Life released the cover image & song title for CL’s debut song AND an amazing image of CL!
While Blackjacks were ecstatic to finally learn the song title (““나쁜기집애” or “The Baddest Female”), the pictures in the first teaser have also attracted attention as fans try to decipher just what symbolism all the images could mean. At this point, no one know for sure what they all stand for, but some initial speculations from people on the meanings within the cover art caught our eyes.
- Bee: Representing both wisdom & feminine energy, bees are often associated with being social, industrious & productive. When looking at the Queen Bee (which most likely represents CL), the traits are more apparent, coupled with power & prestige. Through Greek mythology, the Nine Muses of music and poetry would take the form of bees, associating these insect with the arts. Napoleon also viewed bees as a sign of power & prestige.
- Ram/Sheep: As CL’s Chinese zodiac sign, the Ram/Sheep represents determination, initiative & leadership. Those born under this sign are attracted to the finer things in life and have lean toward artistic expressions such as music. They work hard, but are humble, and will replicate compliments to those who give them to her. Overall, 2013 is predicted to be a very successful year for those born under the sign of the Ram/Sheep ^^. And on a separate note, when put into a coat-of-arms, Rams often represents authority (fitting for our 2NE1 leader)..
- Set of Lions with a Crown: Lions combined with the classic crown represents power, courage, strength, and of course, royalty
Again, these are all just speculations still, but they do appear to represent CL, don’t they?

SPOTTED: CL getting ready for her solo debut in RICK OWENS X CHROME HEARTS
CL has been treating fans to daily Instagram updates leading up to her May 28th solo debut. On May 2oth she posted this stunner with the caption “ima90zbabe”. CL captivates in Chrome Hearts, while subtly promoting the brand, considering nearly everything she has on is from the brand and the girls will begin a special Chrome Hearts endorsement the day after her solo debut.
In addition to a Chrome Hearts Logo Print Horse Shoe Hoodie in Black, of which the 2NE1 ladies seem to have A MILLION of, CL is wearing Rick Owens X Chrome Hearts Hi Top Sneakers that would have set you back almost $200 bucks, if they weren’t sold out. As with other Chrome Hearts releases, the sneakers are adorned with various silver embellishments.
CL is so stylish even just practicing at the YG Building.

Confirmation of the English title change of ‘Bad Girl’, from Bad Girl to “The Baddest Female”.
The leader of the four-membered girlgroup 2NE1 (CL Sandara Park Park Bom Gong Minji) is changing the English title of her upcoming first solo song in 4 years ‘Bad Girl’.
CL’s company YG Entertainment (YG) has announced to Star News that, “‘Bad Girl”s original English title has been fixed today (on the 23th)” and added that “after asking CL asked how it’d be to change the English title to ‘The Baddest Female’, we’re confirming that the final English title for ‘Bad Girl’ is ‘The Baddest Female’.”
‘The Baddest Female’ is an expression CL has liked for a long time and is also the one she’s using when signing for her fans. CL also agreed to ‘Bad Girl’ being the English title of her song as first but after thinking about it, she expressed her opinion and asked whether it was fine to change it to ‘The Baddest Female’ which she likes, uses often and has a bigger meaning to her. CL is usually known for being nice and having good manners, but as soon as she gets on stage, she wants to become a cool and bad girl, which is why she started using ‘The Baddest Female’
YG, agreeing with CL’s opinion has decided to change the English title of ‘Bad Girl’ to ‘The Baddest Female’.
To the questions wondering if “They changed the English title of ‘Bad Girl’ because the title track of Lee Hyori’s 5th album is ‘Bad Girls’”, YG representatives replied “It’s not true at all’“ and furthermore explained that “Even though ‘Bad Girl’ is a title that has been picked for a long time, ‘The Baddest Female’ is a title we’ve thought of together and the Korean title is still going to be ‘Bad Girl’”.
Earlier today, YG representatives revealed about ‘Bad Girl’ that “It’s a slow BPM 70 hiphop song mixed with a modern sound that mixes dougie and dubstep and that goes well with CL’s strong rapping”.
They then added that “CL who has now turned 23 joined YG as a trainee at the age of 16 because she was dreaming of becoming a female rapper, she now going to have her first solo promotions 7 years after she started training and 4 years after officially debuting in the music industry in 2009 as a 2NE1 member”.
The YG representatives concluded with “CL hasn’t just left for Japan to receive dance lessons for the ‘Bad Girl’ choreography, she has also attended the meetings for her music video and showed her passion for the fashion and the ideas [for the music video] on the set” and “Big Bang’s G-Dragon and Taeyang as well her close personal connections will make appearances in her music video”.

Along with the above, YG Entertainment released on the 23rd via their official blog that “‘Bad Girl’ has a BPM of 70 and is a very slow hip hop beat with little difference from a ballad. Modern sounds such as the Dougie and dub step match well with CL’s strong rapping style.”
“How much CL strongly expresses this slow hip hop song is its point as well as strategy.”
Recently CL has received personal training for the song and choreography in Japan. She also constantly attended all ten music video conferences and personally contributed ideas to the set designs.
For its english title, YG has chosen “BAD GIRL”. They explained that though the name is the same as Lee Hyori’s recent song “BAD GIRLS” from her 5th Album, there was no other way to express the title.

SPOTTED: CL gets ‘tatted up’ in the June 2013 issue of W Korea
CL is getting serious mileage from her attendance at Kathleen Kye’s fashion show earlier this year.
Ahead of her first ever solo single, CL is being featured in the upcoming June 2013 issue of W Korea. In the picture, CL is in head to toe KYE from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
A 2011 graduate of Central Saint Martins, KYE is already a favorite among the world’s most powerful retailers, including Opening Ceremony and Harvey Nichols.
Her collection is described as, “Fun-‐loving fashion: extraordinary fashion concepts and shapes that render fashion art products.”
KYE is Kathleen Kye’s commercial fashion brand. The KYE brand is about unconventional and fun-loving designs. The patterns that can be found in her collections are bold, and they transform traditional street art images into new textile patterns. The designer and the brand are ultimately motivated by a desire to re-invent fashion as an artform.
The Spring/Summer 2013 collection titled, “Nothing Ever Goes My Way,” is based on the depression of youth, and expresses realities such as school violence.
